Northland School Division is pleased to announce the appointment of Stuart Elle as Occupational Health and Safety Manager. Stuart brings 10 years of experience managing occupational health and safety programs for school divisions and universities. Prior to health and safety management, Elle was a Computer Science Sessional Instructor at Concordia University College of Alberta and a Sessional Computer Lab Instructor at Grant MacEwan University.
“I am very excited to join the Northland family, said Elle. “To me, health and safety are not just about the people within NSD. While an incident affects the students and staff, it also affects students, families, and communities in numerous ways. Meeting this challenge requires more than hiring a health and safety professional, but a day-to-day awareness by everyone from school staff to senior leadership that safety success is a team effort. I am looking to this new challenge.”
For six years, Stuart worked with the University of Calgary (U of C) as a Hazardous Materials Technician. During his time at U of C, he developed and implemented training materials, safety policies and procedures for university staff and the hazmat team. From there, Stuart became Health and Safety Coordinator at Wolf Creek Public Schools. During his tenure, he implemented and managed the division’s emergency response plans including the Incident Command System and coordinating with local agencies.
Stuart’s recent experience includes Director of the Alberta Education Health and Safety Association and serving as the Health and Safety Adviser with the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford B.C.
Elle has a Bachelor of Science with Distinction Degree from Concordia University College of Alberta and a Health, Safety and Environment Certificate from the University of Calgary. He also completed certifications for Ground Disturbance, Trenching and Excavation Safety, Working Alone, Workplace Violence, WHIMIS, Confined Space Awareness, and Fall Protection Awareness, Incident Command System and Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
