Dual Credit Opportunities

Northland School Division in partnership with Alberta Education, post-secondary and industry are providing Dual Credit opportunities for students.

What are the benefits of Dual Credit courses?

  • Participating in a Dual Credit course allows students to earn credits in high school and post-secondary institutions at the same time, as well as earn credits that may lead to preferred placement and workplace certification.
  • Students gain confidence to succeed academically in a post-secondary environment.
  • Students use the latest education technologies which prepare them for the technological workforce.
  • Students learn what college and university instructors expect, while still in familiar high school surroundings.

Our college partners are MacEwan University, Olds College, Northern Lakes College and Keyano College.

Northland Dual Credit Opportunities

PSSC 121: Law and Administration of Justice (Semester 2)

Students learn the principles, practice and philosophy of the Canadian judicial system with emphasis on the criminal trial process. A review of the structure of the Canadian court system, statute law, case law, and the civil court trial process are included.

ACT 1012 Accounting Principles 2 

This course is a continuation of ACT 1011 to allow for additional study of accounting at an introductory level. Topics include capital assets, long-term liabilities, partnership accounting, accounting for corporations, financial analysis techniques, as well as the cash flow statement using various technologies. **Students must have successfully completed ACT 1011

AHT 1050 Intro to Veterinary Profession

Students will become familiar with selected animal health organizations and will adhere to the regulations of veterinary medicine in Alberta. Students are introduced to strategies and techniques for managing self and interacting with others. Students will examine animal welfare and ethical issues. This course provides students with foundational veterinary medical terminology they will use throughout their career. 

AHT 1140 Veterinary Practice: The Team Connection

Students will become familiar with the aspects of the service cycle within a veterinary clinic. Students will explore veterinary software and their specific application to operating a veterinary practice. They will apply communication skills to create positive experiences for veterinary clients.

ATG 1007 Electronics and Control Systems in Precision Agriculture

Students will investigate foundations of control systems, electronics and practical applications in precision farming. Through experiential learning, students will identify and troubleshoot components within hardware and devices, demonstrate uses/applications of geospatial technology, test control systems and their role in product application, evaluate hardware and software, program farm equipment, and demonstrate a proven process for identifying/troubleshooting components in Agricultural Technology equipment and interpret digital diagnostic data. Windows PC running Windows 10 or higher on DESKTOP or LAPTOP Required. 

HAT 1255 Global and Sustainable Tourism

Students will gain an understanding of the psychology of travel, tourism sectors, the role of key industry players, and contemporary issues in ecotourism, sustainability and business operations of various facilities, with a focus on the analysis of the service and operations from a guest perspective. 

EVS 1210 Applied Ecology

Students will be provided an introduction to ecological principles at the species, population, community and ecosystem levels. Specific application of ecology to sustainability and the management of forest and grassland ecosystems are studied.

SPM 1020 Training for Performance

Students will learn about various aspects of training for performance. They will analyze the basic science behind activity, energy systems, and macrocycles in sport training. Consideration will also be given to diverse populations, training facilities, equipment, schedules, budgets, as well as individual and team training preferences. 

CEA 1040 Operating Controlled Environment Systems

Students will gain practical experience with optimizing crop production and diagnosing problems while minimizing environmental impact. By the end of the course, students will have the necessary skills to operate and troubleshoot systems, incorporating integrated pest management and waste management in Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) systems.

Educational Assistant Certificate Program

The Educational Assistant Certificate program prepares you for a meaningful career working with children in school settings. Graduates will have the skills to assist students with exceptionalities by adapting their educational materials and programs. Educational Assistants also help students learn in one-on-one or small group situations, promote inclusion, prepare instructional materials for teachers, and monitor student progress.

Course 1 = Effectively managing student behaviour in educational settings (this is the first course for the students)
