NSD schools to celebrate 1st Annual Northland Day August 30th
Posted on August 28
A new tradition begins August 30th at Northland School Division (NSD). All NSD schools will celebrate Northland Day by hosting a community gathering to kick-off the 2017-2018 school year.
"Northland Day is an opportunity for school staff to interact with students, parents, Elders and community members,” said Gord Atkinson, Superintendent of Schools. "Schools are organizing a meal along with activities to celebrate dialogue, community and culture. It's exciting to have schools hosting events in unison. A special thank you to our First Nations, Metis Education staff for helping to organize a new tradition."
Northland Day also presents the opportunity for parents and community members to participate in their local school. In addition, a representative from Northland School Division or Alberta Education will be present at Northland Day events to help community members understand the new Northland Act, the process to become a Trustee and the establishment of a School Council.
