Northland School Division had another reason to celebrate at the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA) Zone One Fall Awards Ceremony.
Brittney Lyon, who taught grade 5 last year at Athabasca Delta Community School in Fort Chipewyan, was recognized by the ASBA for her Edwin Parr Teacher Award nomination.
The Edwin Parr Teacher Award recognizes first-year teachers that demonstrate exemplary dedication and commitment to the field of education.
“Brittney’s dedication to the profession is evident,” said Robin Guild, Board Chair. “For example, she signed up to take extra professional learning courses on land-based learning to enhance her ability to help students connect classroom material to their lives, community and culture. On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I congratulate Brittney on being recognized by the ASBA.”
“We are very pleased with the progress Brittney has made as an educator,” said Dr. Nancy Spencer-Poitras. “Brittney is always eager to learn new things, ask questions and adapt to ensure all students are engaged in the learning experience. Being recognized by the ASBA is an honor, and we are very proud of Brittney’s accomplishment.”
Brittney, who earned a Bachelor of Education as an Elementary Generalist from the University of Alberta, is teaching elementary at Chipewyan Lake School this year.
The ASBA Zone One Fall Awards Ceremony took place on September 21, 2022, in Peace River.
