Michelle Deering appointed Principal at Grouard Northland School

Northland School Division (NSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michelle Deering as Grouard Northland School Principal. Michelle has been a member of the Northland team for 16 years. She has been a teacher, an education coach, a literacy coach and participated in special education training with the Calgary Board of Education.
“The Board congratulates Michelle on becoming the new Principal at Grouard Northland School,” said Robin Guild, Board Chair. “We are pleased to see we have been able to retain such an outstanding leader for the Grouard community. Being able to achieve excellence in leadership is essential to achieving our number one priority which is excellence in learning.”
“Michelle has the leadership qualities we are looking for to support the instructional focus areas in the Northland School Division,” said Dr. Nancy Spencer-Poitras, Superintendent of Schools. “During her time as a teacher at Grouard Northland School, Michelle has stepped in as Acting Principal on numerous occasions. She also has previous leadership experience with implementing literacy strategies in the school division. Michelle is very enthusiastic, creative and dedicated to helping students reach their full potential.”
"I am very humbled and honored to be taking on the Instructional Leadership role for Grouard Northland School,” said Deering. “I have been a part of this school's learning community for 14 years and I assure you that I will continue to be dedicated in my caring for our students everyday while providing them with a meaningful learning environment."
Michelle holds a Master of Education Degree focused on building and enhancing student mental health and instructional leadership from the University of Calgary, a Bachelor of Education from the Kings University and a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Major in Psychology/Minor in Sociology) from Acadia University.
