Important update about PowerSchool cybersecurity issue

Posted on January 23

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are following up on the letter we sent on January 9, 2025 regarding the cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the system we use for student information. We want to share additional details and next steps provided by PowerSchool.

Identity protection and credit Monitoring Services
PowerSchool has partnered with trusted credit reporting agencies to offer complimentary services for those affected by this incident:

  • Identity protection: All affected students and staff will have access to identity protection services through Experian.
  • Credit monitoring: Students and staff who are 18 years or older (the age of majority in Alberta) can access free credit monitoring through TransUnion. This is because Experian does not provide credit monitoring in Canada.

Who will be notified
Over the coming weeks, PowerSchool, in collaboration with Experian and TransUnion, will notify parents, students, and staff whose information was involved. These notices will include details about the services being offered and a phone number to call if you have questions about the incident.

What PowerSchool is doing
PowerSchool has worked with cybersecurity experts to investigate the incident and prevent further unauthorized access. At this time, they have found no evidence of identity theft linked to this situation.

For the most up-to-date information, we encourage you to visit PowerSchool’s webpage dedicated to this incident: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident/.

We know the privacy and safety of your personal information are incredibly important, and we are committed to keeping you informed.

Thank you for your continued understanding.

Sincerely,

Cal Johnson
