Tansi, Edlanat’e, Hello students, parents, guardians, staff, community members, and education partners,

I want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication displayed throughout the first half of the 2024-2025 school year. Your collective efforts have contributed significantly to the progress and successes we are seeing in Northland School Division.

This school year began a little differently as we launched a brand-new Three-Year Education Plan https://www.nsd61.ca/download/453870. This plan reflects what we heard directly from the communities we serve during the 2023-2024 school year. It’s exciting to see strategies already coming to life. For example, with the support of schools and communities, we successfully formed the Superintendent’s Youth Council and the Superintendent’s Elder and Knowledge Keeper Advisory Council. Both councils held their first meetings in December and are already making an impact. To learn more, I encourage you to read the What We Heard Reports:

Looking ahead to the new year, we are excited to reconnect with the communities we serve through in-person engagements starting in January. These sessions will celebrate successes, highlight the actions we’ve taken based on community feedback, and address ongoing challenges. Please watch for updates from your local school about these engagements.

At the same time, the Board remains committed to advocating to the government and education partners on matters that support the success and well-being of Northland students.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Miyo Nipayamiha, Tedhyati Haretiya Watei, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Sincerely,

Tanya Fayant
Board Chair
