World Teacher's Day

World Teachers’ Day, held annually on October 5th, commemorates hard work and dedication of educators’ worldwide. Its aim is to mobilize support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met.

“Northland School Division No.61 (NSD61) would like to thank educators who help students succeed academically while maintaining an appreciation for Aboriginal language, culture and history,” said Donna Barrett, Superintendent of Schools. “Teachers are important pillars in our school communities and we appreciate what they do to help students become contributing members of society.”

NSD61 supports the aim for World Teacher’s Day and believes providing professional development for educators is essential.

“It’s our responsibility to help teachers bring to life division-wide initiatives to support literacy, cultural weaving, attendance, Career and Technology Studies (CTS) and experiential learning,” said Barrett. “Teachers are essential to student success.”

Northland School Division recognizes teachers for outstanding achievement and for years of service at their annual Long Service and Recognition Awards. Barrett says “We also look forward to hosting a brand new teacher appreciation night for our teachers in February.
