NSD launches Superintendent’s Youth Council
Posted on November 6
Northland School Division is excited to announce the formation of the Superintendent's Youth Council, reinforcing our commitment to amplifying student voice and participation in their education. This council will provide students with a platform to share ideas, give feedback on school programs, and help shape decisions that impact their learning and school environment.
Nomination Process
School principals will lead the nomination process to select up to 18 student representatives for the council. These students will be chosen based on their ability to represent their peers, contribute valuable insights, and participate actively in discussions. This selection will ensure a diverse range of perspectives, reflecting the experiences and backgrounds of students across the division.
We encourage parents and guardians to discuss this opportunity with their children. If a student is interested, they should speak to their teacher or principal to express their desire to be considered for the council.
Initial Meetings and Orientation
Once the Superintendent's Youth Council members are finalized, the Executive Team will host an introductory Zoom session on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at noon (12:00 p.m.). This meeting will introduce council members to their roles and provide an overview of expectations and upcoming activities.
The first in-person meeting for the council is set for Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the DoubleTree West Edmonton. Details regarding hotel arrangements for student representatives will be communicated by school principals to parents and guardians.
