NSD mourning loss of student

October 31, 2022 Update
As reported earlier, on Saturday, October 29, 2022, there was a serious vehicle accident involving five Northland School Division students. It was with great sadness that we confirmed the loss of one student. The condition of the other students has not been officially disclosed. These tragic events affect many students, staff, families, and community members.
During this difficult time, three mental health staff met with students at Mistassiniy School, St. Theresa School and Career Pathways School today (Monday, October 31, 2022). The three mental health staff members will then be at Mistassiniy School all day tomorrow (Tuesday, November 1, 2022) for students who may need access to support. If you know of any students who need support please encourage them to access these services.
Northland School Division’s Employee Family Assistance Program Provider Homewood Health was at Mistassiniy School (Monday, October 31, 2022) to provide support to staff as needed. Staff will also have access to two staff from Homewood Health support at Mistassiniy School tomorrow (Tuesday, November 1, 2022).
The Bigstone Mental Wellness Crisis Team had support at Mistassiniy School today (Monday October 31, 2022). They will also be onsite at Mistassiniy tomorrow (Tuesday November 1, 2022) for anyone who would like to access support. Northland School Division would like to thank the Bigstone team for working with us to support students, staff and communities during this time.

On Saturday, October 29, 2022, five Northland School Division students were involved in a vehicle accident in Wabasca-Desmarais. It is with great sadness that we confirm the loss of one student. The other four students were taken to the hospital. We do not have an update on their conditions at this time.
