Northland School Division is seeking a 0.3 Cree Language Instructor/0.7 Educational Assistant to work with students at Chipewyan Lake School. The kindergarten to grade 9 school is situated along Chipewyan Lake. The lake’s pristine waters are inviting and provide many recreational opportunities. Chipewyan Lake is located 110 km from Wabasca-Desmarais, Alberta. The starting date for this position is August 26, 2024. Cree Language Instructor
- Qualifications and Requirements:
- Fluency in the Indigenous language of the community.
- Preference to candidates having classroom and/or classroom management skills.
- The ability to develop lesson plans.
- Interest in working with children.
- Training and/or background in working with children would be an asset.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Dependability.
The successful applicant should possess a strong work ethic, initiative, and the ability to work with the certificated staff at the school. The starting salary range is based on education and experience. A comprehensive benefit package is also provided.
Educational Assistant
- Major responsibilities include:
- Work with children with varied skill levels, needs and abilities.
- The assignment includes working with students in the classroom, supporting student academics and individualized learning needs, tutorial help, support for English Language Learners, and
- Other Educational duties as assigned.
- Assets include:
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively and/or independently.
- Cree language proficiency.
- Qualifications include:
- Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent experience would be an asset.
- Effective communication and the ability to follow plans.
- Ability to support students who require individualized programs, enrichment, modifications, and/or accommodations to their learning.
- Proficiency in the use of educational technology
- Candidates with a Grade 12 Diploma will be given preference.
- Criminal Record/Intervention check required.
